Tugboats (tug boats) or tugs, push or tow vessels that cannot or
should not move by themselves. Ships in a packed harbor or in a narrow canal would be better off
being towed or pused by a tugboat instead of using their own power. Barges, oil platforms and
disabled ships cannot move by themselves and thus require the help of tugboats.
Don't let the small size of tugboats fool you. They are very powerfully and
strongly-built. Tugboats can be used as icebreakers and as salvage boats.
